Monticello, IN Wednesday, July 23, 2008 Today was a day to appreciate in Indiana. We had cooler temps in the 80's with low humidity. That's rare in July for Indiana! The blue skies and fair weather clouds beckoned Kit to the outside to read. We pulled out the lawn chairs and loungers from the bay. Then, Jerry put out the awning. We remarked that our awning had not been used since last year at about this time. While Kit enjoyed the sun, Jerry worked on transferring files from his old laptop to the new HP laptop. Was that easy? Not! He still has decisions to make and files to move. Kit put chicken in the slow cooker with Italian dressing. We added peas and carrots, a potato and new for us, "flax seed" dinner rolls to our menu. Yummy! It was a live show for Big Brother tonight. Rodeo Steve is gone. Is anyone watching Showtime 2 Big Brother after Dark? Life is G☺☺D!
Monticello, IN Tuesday, July 22, 2008 Today began with breakfast at McDonald's and some puzzle time. Joseph from Bank of America Uvalde called and solved all of Jerry's problems. Then we moved to the Laundromat. Kit used her washer in the RV yesterday, but she prefers to dry our clothes in a commercial dryer. She says she has less wrinkles and therefore less ironing (none.) By 11:00 we were back at the RV and made the decision to drive back to Martinsville to pick up our mail. We have our mail sent to Livingston, TX, to the Escapees Mail Service. It's just a matter of a phone call or email to inform the service where to send our next package. The mail is sent out on Tuesday and we receive it on Friday. Last week, for some reason our mail was not where it was supposed to be on Friday. We were scheduled to be here in Monticello at Western Horizons. Yes, we could have extended our stay in Martinsville, but we chose not to. The 110 miles back to get our mail was a pleasant drive. It was the 110 mile return trip that seemed to go on forever. We arrived back at the coach around 5:00 p.m. That included a gas stop at the Flying J in Lebanon, IN, for $3.93/ gal. Tonight was a Big Brother night for Kit. She talked to Betty Wright earlier in the evening comparing notes. (Hey this is serious stuff.) Jerry tried to work online with emails but because of a slow Verizon phone card, frustration won out. Posting this tonight was very slow. Life is still G☺☺D!
Monticello, IN Another Storm and Verizon Woes Monday, July 21, 2008 We had another rain storm this morning with lots of wind and rain. Fortunately we were in the McDonald's at the time. We watched from the window while enjoying our biscuits and puzzle time. When we returned to the RV we were without water. We had lost electric during the storm. Somehow the water pump that brings our water to the upper level did not reset when the electric came back on. It was well over 5 hours before water was restored. We have lousy Verizon phone reception here. We can call out and receive calls, but we lose contact after about a minute into the conversation. Jerry went into Monticello and found good reception in the Wal-Mart parking lot. So, today he did his banking phone calls sitting in the car. We found a great pizza place in town for dinner. "Monicals" specialized in a tortilla type thin crust -- our favorite. Jerry tried the personal size ground beef and cheese. Kit went with a personal veggie topped with pineapple and pepperoni. The dinner included small salads and a drink. We're watching the weather for Texas and wondering what impact tropical-storm 'hurricane' "Dolly" will have on Brackettville. Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow. Life is G☺☺D!

Sunday, July 20, 2008 Lightning, thunder, heavy downpour of rain -- it all came at 4:30 this morning. And, in less than fifteen minutes it was all out of here. We visited the First United Methodist Church of Monticello this morning for the first service. The music (organ, piano, and a Middle School violinist) was especially enjoyable. From there, we picked up the Lafayette Sunday paper and headed to the "newest McDonald's in the World" for a crunchy breakfast. We spent an hour working the Sudoku puzzle and plowing through the newspaper. We did find a neat story about some Purdue University students accompanying their professor to Beijing, China to work as media liaisons for the Olympic News Service. They are assigned to the cycling events at the Laoshan Velodrome, gathering quotes for the media. The group has been in China for two weeks training and becoming familiar with the area. We logged on to check out their blogs. It made for very interesting reading as they describe their experiences so far. You can log on at ( http://www.jconline.com ) the newspaper site and find the Beijing bloggers on the blue news line one click down the page, or you can simply click on the Beijing bloggers and hope it takes you to the site. It did today when we tried it. As promised, we want to give you a tour of the lower area of this Western Horizon's Resort. White Oaks is on Lake Freeman, a recreational lake formed from the Tippecanoe River. The large clubhouse has a game room, adult lounge, exercise facility, laundry, and showers on the first floor. Jerry found the ice cream parlor right away on the second level There is a pizza parlor and coffee shop as well as a ballroom on this level too. There are about forty full hook-up sites with 30 amp electric in the Village I Several family cabins line the perimeter of the campsites. We took a drive around to the west side of Lake Freeman to capture this shot of the Resort Tonight was a Big Brother TV night. So, we know what Kit was doing. Jerry spent some time on our website adding to our "Favorite Web Sites." Life is G☺☺D!

Saturday, July 19, 2008 We woke up to summer rain showers this morning and quickly decided to eat in. We were ready for our day once we had a bowl of Raisin Bran (for Jerry) and Cherrios (for Kit.) Jerry spent some time backing up both laptops onto a 200 gig Maxtor hard drive. Kit defrosted the refrigerator and threw away a few hidden leftovers left way too long in the far recesses of the shelves. By late morning the rains had subsided. We needed a couple of jugs of water so we headed into Wal-Mart. Now, you know it is nearly impossible for us to enter Wal-Mart and come out with only one item. Keeping true to form, we loaded the car with our purchases. Then, we stopped at Kroger to pick up a few veggies, fruits, and meats. Later in the afternoon we took a walk around the grounds. We are on the upper level of the resort parked in a pull through with 50 amp electrical service. Sewer hookups were added last November to this section making it so convenient and popular. Behind us are the cabins used mostly on the weekends. We walked out to the overlook and picnic area. Lake Freeman is a desirable water spot for jet skis, sail boats, and pontoon boats. This welcome sign is at the "cars only" entrance. The main check in is just a quarter mile down the road. We use this access when leaving the Resort to run into Monticello, 4 miles north. We like it here. Tomorrow we'll give you a tour of the lower level. Life is G☺☺D! |
