Brackettville, TX
We started our day with breakfast over at the RV Park. It's a Saturday tradition in the winter time here at Fort Clark Springs. The RV men do the cooking, offering up eggs any way you like, hot pancakes, sausage patties, and juice or coffee for $3.50. What a deal! We met Pat, Dan, Ginger, and Jesse at 8:00 a.m. and gathered in the kitchen for some good conversation. Actually, it was so crowded and loud, we had a hard time talking about anything. However, we all enjoyed the meal.
Following breakfast, we walked over to see Jesse and Ginger's new 5th wheel. We had plans for the day, but offered the use of our golf car to our friends so that they could leisurely revisit the Fort. From our conversation later in the evening, it sounded like they had a great time with Dan and Pat, touring the grounds. Jerry continued to work on the water hook-ups making the final touches that will allow us to use the outside faucets with ease. He mounted the PEX water bibs to 2 x 4 posts to make them sturdier. Just as he started on the second bib of three, his battery screwdriver and drill needed a charge. We decided to take time out and go find the Chaparrosa gate that we could possibly be working later this week. Our trip to the gate was 75 miles from Brackettville. (Highway 90 to Uvalde, then Highway 83 South to La Pryor. Turn Southwest and go 13 miles on Highway 57.) We weren't quite sure where we would be located, so we stopped to talk to the Ranch Manager, Tommy. He directed us down Highway 57 to the exact location. The gate entrance appears to be do-able for us. It is an old well entry road. Bill even indicate there was an electric box available, but he didn't know if it was still operable. We'll wait for Roger's call and be able to tell you more information as we get it. We ended up stopping in Uvalde on our way home. Kit had a prescription to fill and Jerry wanted to pick up a new watch. Walmart was packed on this New Year's Eve with people looking for bargains. Kit was successful in getting her meds, but Jerry's watch was not in the cards for today. Since we skipped lunch, we opted for an early evening supper at Whataburger. We made it back to the Fort, missing happy hour all the way around. Jesse and Ginger stopped by just as it was getting dark to make plans to get together tomorrow. That should be fun! It has been a great 2011 for us. We can't wait to see what 2012 brings to us.
